Charles Wesley - 300th Anniversary of His Birth

563

The Rev. Charles Wesley, M A., widely known as the, 'Sweet singer of Methodism,' and one of the greatest ever hymn writers, was born on 18 December, 1707.

As a hymn writer he needs no introduction. Even today, his hymns show little sign of losing their appeal after more than 200 years.

  • And Can It Be,

  • Arise My Soul, Arise,

  • Hark, The Herald Angels Sing,

  • Jesus, Lover Of My Soul,

  • Love Divine, All Loves Excelling,

  • O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing,

are several of his best known hymns.

However, not much else is commonly known about the life of Charles Wesley. He seems to have been lost in his brother's shadow, for while studies and biographies of John Wesley have never been in short supply, biographies of Charles Wesley are not so plenteous.

This message traces the life and ministry of Charles Wesley, and draws some practical lessons from his life.
