Let Us Rejoice!

While shepherds watch their flocks by night,
Beneath the starry sky,
A sudden glory blinds their sight,
An angel from on high.

"Fear not," the heavenly herald cries,
"For tidings glad I bring;
To you, in David's town, this day
Is born the promised King.

The Lord, the Savior, and the Christ,
The Son of God Most High;
This is the sign: a manger low,
Wherein the infant lies."

With wonder struck, the shepherds haste
To see the wondrous sight;
And there they find, in swaddling bands,
The babe of grace and light.
