God's Plan Fulfilled
Series Matthew's Gospel
We are all familiar with the narrative of Jesus' childhood that follows from the wise men's visit. Joseph and the family's flight to Egypt, Herod's murder of children and infants in Bethlehem, and the family's return from Egypt to Nazareth. My experience is that this part of Jesus' story has seldom garnered much attention. The passage occupies little more than passing comments at the end of the Christmas story. But the rhythm of Jesus' fulfilment of the prophecy in Matthew's first chapter only continues to increase. Even as a child, Jesus satisfies, completes, and fulfils the word and will of the Father. He is God's firstborn son, called out from a kingdom of darkness. He is an end to weeping for those lost to sin without hope. And he fully embodies the despised and rejected. All of this we will see in these short verses.
