What Christmas Is All About

Even the beloved comic strip character Charlie Brown became frustrated by the commercial nature of Christmas. Some 53 years ago, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" was first broadcast on American television. In desperation, young Charlie cried out for someone to tell him the real meaning of Christmas. What is Christmas all about? Christmas is all about the incarnation of God for the purposes of atonement for our sins. Jesus took on flesh and became the God-man. Anselm put it beautifully, "For God will not do it, because he does not owe it, and man will not do it, because he cannot. Therefore, for the God-Man to do this, the person who is to make this satisfaction must be both perfect God and perfect man, because none but true God can make it, and none but true man owes it."
