A Divine portrait drawn in black and white

Bible history is selective. Not every detail of history is recorded in the Word of God. The events which are recorded are all the more emphasised by this selectiveness, and press upon us a diligent and careful study as to why the Spirit of God chose to place them in the inspired volume of His Word.

The events in 2 Samuel 4 have been included for a divine reason, that reason is to set before us the contrast between the righteous and the wicked (verse 11).

The Spirit of God reveals to us four such contrasts.

1: The contrast of conduct
2: The contrast of character
3: The contrast of the concept of God
4: The contrast of conclusion
