Shepherding The Shepherds

102 ( 80 | 22 )

None of us are beyond the need to be shepherded.
Not even those who are entrusted with the care of God’s flock!
In fact ‘elders’ are given special attention by Peter who recognises both the blessing and the pitfalls of such ministry and so, as a fellow elder, he shepherds them!
He knew from personal experience that there is no one ‘too big to fail’.
No one is exempt from the risks associated with inflated views of their own importance.
The context of Peter’s exhortation is a church that is under the pressure of persecution.
Times of trial and stress are often accompanied by compromising temptations.
It is therefore critical for shepherds and sheep to live in humility toward one another with hearts set on the unfading glory to come rather than being ensnared by the failing gods of money and power.'
As we face a new year, it is good to be forewarned in order to be forearmed to meet the stresses and pressures ahead knowing that ‘our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
