Going fishing

Here Christ begins to extend his kingdom, and Luke is interested both in the quantity and the quality of the disciples, as they reflect the character of the righteous King.

At the beginning of this sequence, the Lord is by the Lake of Gennesaret (the Sea of Galilee). As the crowd presses in, he finds a strange pulpit on Simon's boat; Christ commands a stunning catch, breaking on to Peter's patch; Christ elicits a sincere confession from Peter, utterly humbled before Christ's majesty; it gives rise to a striking commission: Peter will no longer catch fish, but catch men.
