Why We Celebrate the Reformation

66 ( 49 | 17 )

There is an imaginary place called purgatory that the early Roman Catholic Church made up so that they could get money from people to build a building. Purgatory was also invented to help ease people's anxieties that their loved ones were in a "clean up" area getting ready for Heaven. Scripture is the final authority. What God says His word will never pass away. During the time of the Reformation, the dividing line was wether or not the scriptures must be fulfilled. It is also a dividing line today. "The gospel is the power of God for everyone to be saved if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you"…. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) It is what Jesus did, that saves us. Salvation is not based on what we do, but based on what He did. We were dead in our trespasses and sins. Praise be to God that salvation is from the Lord, He is the One from whom we receive our saving faith. We are supposed to devote ourselves to doing good, because He saved us, not to become saved. (Titus 3:3-8) If Christ has saved us, we should want and desire to serve Him, not just to escape Hell, but to earnestly desire to be with Him and work for Him.
