Safe in the Arms of Jesus

Sometimes our relationship to our animals faintly mirrors God's relationship with His people. Our rule over the animals has been marred by our fall in sin. We often fail as masters while God excels in His reign over us!

Sometimes in our animals' responses to our rule over them, we can detect a faint image of our response to our Maker.

How often we act like our animals, only paying attention to our Master when we want something from Him!

How often we are like our animals, dissatisfied with what we have been provided by our God, and complaining for something new and fresh and "better."

How often we rebel against God's rule, even as we see our animals resist our own. We can train them to some extent, but praise God, He has promised we will one day be perfectly obedient to Him!

I noticed this week that my cat, Mr. Andrew, was full of fear when I took him in my arms to visit my grandmother outside. Nothing was going to happen to him, yet he was afraid.

How like that we are toward God! He has infinite power and goodness toward His people, yet we are often filled with fear.

If only Mr. Andrew had trusted me, he could have enjoyed the adventure and attention. If only the Saints trusted God completely, we too could have peace and quiet and joy!

The Scriptures are full of exhortations to trust God completely and fear not.

In both Isaiah and John's Gospel, our Lord Jesus is described as holding His people tightly so that nobody can harm us.

Our Lord Jesus went to Calvary to redeem us from the judgment, so that He might never be required by the demands of God's justice to deliver us up to death.

Hallelujah, we are safe in Jesus' arms forever!
