The risen and reigning Lord

92

Christ's life and work did not end with his death: he does not disappear from history. Luke writes a continued record of all that Christ continued to do and teach through his apostles, after he ascended to the right hand of his Father.

His ascension reminds us of Christ's rising from the dead; it assures us of his present glorious reign; it warns us of his certain glorious return.

What will happen to you when Christ returns? Unless we are trusting in him, we shall be forever condemned. The gospel summons sounds out now, calling sinners to come to the risen and ascended Lord Jesus, and cast yourself upon him, for whoever believes in him shall be saved.

(The Promise (by Alec Taylor, published by the Banner of Truth) is a book guiding readers through thirty-one daily Scripture readings introducing them to the gospel. We used the texts Pastor Taylor selected to provide the framework for a brief series of sermons tracing something of the person and work of Christ from Genesis to Revelation. The last twelve sermons of this series (the bulk of the messages on the New Testament) were digitally recorded, and are available here on SermonAudio. This is number 25 in the series.)
