The Branch: A Royal Priest

The prophecy of Zechariah predicts that the Branch, the Messiah, will be a very unusual priest: he will rule over the throne. In addition to removing the sins of God's people in a single day, the prophecy demonstrates how the Messiah will also bear the crown, and perpetually fulfill both the office of priest and king. Joshua the High Priest is a sign that points forward to the greater Joshua: Jesus, the Christ, the Son of David. This is a wonderful prophecy looking forward to the coming of Christ.
