The Value Of The Visible Church

Scripture abundantly makes clear that what ultimately matters is the condition of a person's heart. Having the sign of the covenant, be it circumcision in the Old Testament and baptism in the New in itself does not make one a Christian. Possessing the external sign is spiritually meaningless apart from the internal work of the Holy Spirit. However, being in the visible covenant community is not without value.
