Luke's purpose in his Gospel was to explain how Jesus was bringing in the Kingdom of God and that His Kingdom was to shift from a primary Jewish context to a Gentile one. The centurion, a commander of 100 men stationed in Capernaum, was a Gentile who expressed faith that outshined any Jesus had witnessed in Israel. Only two times does Jesus marvel at great faith; this centurion's and that of a Canaanite (Gentile) woman (Matthew 15). Kingdom citizens are characterized by a faith that is evidenced in persevering obedience to Jesus Christ. How is your faith characterized?
