Jesus Said Forgiveness is the Reason for the Cross

Seven times did Jesus speak from the cross. His first word revealed the essential reason for His suffering and death. He said, "Father, forgive them". His petition was in behalf of those the Father gave Him. His prayer was as broad and inclusive as His death, namely for God's elect. His effectual intercession is their salvation.
