The Parable of the Fig Tree

This parable is given in the midst of the Olivet Discourse, Jesus' longest discussion on end time events. Jesus was giving signs of future return to setup the kingdom. One of these signs previous to His coming was the setting up of the abomination of desolation. This sign was warning that Jesus was set for return. Like the fig tree putting forth its leaves was the sign of coming fruit, so these events were signs that Jesus was coming back.
