The Only Lasting Love

Is God really for us? When God's hard providence comes against us, how can we know for sure that God loves us?

Do the mere words, 'God loves you,' offer the Christian any true assurance of such? No, if anything all these words do are appeal to emotion. Paul in his epistle to the Romans, rather answers this question by calling forth that which God has objectively done in history in the sending of His Son to become sin and so bear the curse and judgment of sin on our behalf. There is hardly a verse of Scripture that mentions God's love which does not also allude to the cross as well.

How do we know God loves us? The Father had nothing more valuable to give to demonstrate that love toward us than His only begotten Son, and He has nothing but pure desire for our blessing. In Romans 8:32, Paul argues the lesser from the greater ... if He has not spared the greater, how shall He not also freely give us all things?
