Hanukkah and the Man of Sin

Daniel 7 prophesies the coming of the still future Man of Sin, but Daniel 8 is about Antiochus Ephiphanes, the greatest foreshadowing of this evil, end time ruler. Because of this, knowledge of the nature of Antiochus' persecution of the Jews (the events that led up to the Jewish feast of Hanukkah) is essential in order to understand Bible prophecy effectively. Furthermore, according to John 10:22, 23, the Lord Jesus visited the Temple during Hanukkah. Hanukkah looks back to that time of suffering as well as the deliverance that God brought during one of Israel's darkest hours. Hanukkah points us to a yet greater time of suffering and a still greater deliverance, when the Light of the World returns to destroy the Man of Sin. (2 Thessalonians 2.)
