The Pressure of Partiality_04 James 2:1-13 God does not play favorites and neither should born again believers. It's human nature to play favorites. We may show a preference for those who are "just like us" (ethically, socioeconomically, politically, or whatever), or we may give preferential treatment for the sake of trying to get ahead. Jesus, on the other hand, treated all people the same. We should treat people as Jesus does.James instructs Christians to reject their practice of showing favoritism. Believers must not dishonor the poor, for God honors the poor who love Him. James pointed to the Old Testament to show that favoritism is sin.Attitudes among Christians are to be shaped by the royal law revealed in Christ and founded on love.Partiality that leads to rejection of an individual or a people is sin in the sight of God.The Lord expects that what we say will be supported by what we do according to the freedom we have in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who show no mercy toward others deserve none from God in the final judgment.
