J.C. Ryle's Expository Thoughts on the Gospel of Matthew 2:1-12

Scripture does not tell us the names of the wise men who came to honour Jesus at His birth, or where they came from. But, the verses at the beginning of Matthew 2 show us that:
1: There may be true servants of God in places where we would not expect to find them.
2: It is not always those who have most religious privileges who give Christ most honour.
3: There may be knowledge of Scripture in the head, while there is no grace in the heart.
4: These verses give us a splendid example of spiritual diligence.
5: We learn of a striking example of faith.
Ryle explains that wherever the Bible is read, the conduct of the wise men is known, and is told as a memorial to them. He concludes this short exposition by asking - "Have we not a thousand-fold more evidence than the wise men had, to make us believe that Jesus is the Christ? Beyond doubt we have. Yet where is our faith?
