Not all Goodness Feels Good

Psalm 107 begins, ends, and is punctuated throughout with declarations of the goodness and loving kindness of the Lord. Clearly, the reader of the Psalm is then surprised to read how intensely some of the people, upon which it focuses, suffered. Yet as this suffering brings people to humble repentance and restoration, the Lord's purpose is realised, and it is a purpose that eternally outweighs the suffering through which it came.
