Maker of Heaven and Earth

The early Fathers recognized that there was a danger in the way the Apostles' Creed was worded. You might wind up thinking that the Father is the Creator, the Son is the Redeemer, and the Spirit is the one who is active in the church.

But if you believe in the Holy Trinity, then you must confess that the Triune God is the maker of heaven and earth.

This is what Paul is getting at in Colossians 1 – when he says that the Son is "the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible... All things were created through him and for him."

Paul cannot imagine a unitarian deity. The One God who is the maker of heaven and earth is the Tri-une God...
