Faith In Action

There is an interaction between faith and action. True biblical faith leads to action. Like William Cary, Caleb was a man who believed great things of God (Joshua 14) and attempted great things for God (Joshua 15). Caleb demonstrates that faith leads to action. In this message, we examine Caleb's faith and his faith in action.

1. We see his faith in the fight (1:14)
   He drives out the Anakims. He single handedly does what the whole nation feared to do (Numbers 13:27-33). A fraction of the nation and a fraction of the tribe of Caleb was able to do what a whole nation feared to do. Faith produces works ("your work of faith" - 1 Thess 1:3). When we have faith in the power of God, we can do that which seems impossible. By believing prayer, great obstacles can be removed (Mark 11:23-24)

2. We see his faith in his family life (1:15-19)
   Caleb selected her husband. It was a cultural thing. It does not mean that is what we should do. But parental guidance is important. People are raised today to despise the wisdom of their parents. Caleb showed himself to be a man who cared for his family. This is seen in his interaction with his daughter
   2a. his petition (1:18)
   He asked what she needed. That shows care.
   2b. his protection (1:15-17)
   Caleb wanted his daughter to be given to the right man. Othniel was a man of courage and courage is a mark of faith (1 Cor 16:13). Caleb wants a man of faith for his daughter. That shows his protection of her
   2c. his provision (1:19)
   She asked for a spring and he provided more than she asked

3. We see his faith in his Christ likeness
   We see a greater than Caleb here. Like Caleb, Christ whole followed the Lord and secured God's promises
