Water and blood, along with the Spirit, testify to the truth that those who have the Son of God (Jesus Christ) have eternal life.
John is defending the truth of the incarnation of the Son against the errors creeping into the early church that taught the either Jesus only appeared to be human or that the Spirit came upon Jesus at His baptism and left Him at the crucifixion.
