1 John: God is Light

This message is a continuation of our verse by verse study of 1 John.

Verse 5: The Declaration: God is light.

• Light dispels darkness
• Intellectual light (truth) dispels intellectual darkness (ignorance)
• Moral light (purity and perfection) dispels moral darkness (sin, evil and impurity)

Verse 6: The Difficulty: Our walk needs to line up with our words. Some people say that they are in that light but they walk in darkness and are living a lie.

Verse 7: The Discovery: If we walk in the light we have two things:

• Fellowship with one another, and
• Forgiveness of sins

Verse 8: The Deception: Some say they don't have sin. The Bible says that if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. There is a difference between sins (plural) and sin (singular), our old sin nature. “He that covers his sin shall not prosper.” Uncover it and cover it with the blood of Christ.
