1 The Christian's ultimate goal, whether living or dying, is to please God.
2 The manner in which Christians pursue this goal: "we labour."
3 The motivation to excite us to actively engage in this pursuit: "we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ."
Application 1 We cannot be sincere unless this is our aim. 2 It is this that makes us serious, watchful and dutiful. 3 It will help us in the fight against sin. 4 It will comfort us under the difficulties of obedience and the hardships of our pilgrimage. 5 How else can we look for and hasten towards the second coming? 6 Consider why God made you and saved you.
