The Gathered Church

Out of this passage we are able to observe the importance of normal church life, in a local church, a gathered body of believers together. We ask ourselves how should such a church function, who makes up such an assembly, and what should our attitude be towards each other in this 'church'?

We learn that preaching, authorative preaching, is important, with its application to our lives. Preaching should be evangelistic, as well as pastoral, seeking to reach the lost, and to edify all who hear it. The preacher needs to make doctrine clear, being sure to preach the whole counsel of God.

Within the local church, the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper, in which Christ is portrayed and remembered is a fundamental part of church life.

Members of a local church all need to play their part, serving together, looking for God to be at work amongst them.
