Earthly-Mindedness and the Ethic of the Kingdom: Living in Faith
Series Sermon on the Mount Series
339
Jesus had called His hearers to renounce treasure on earth and He knew that they were hearing Him through "natural ears." They heard Him calling them to give no concern or attention to temporal needs - a demand that seemed as presumptuous as it was impossible. Did He actually expect them to ignore the very real needs associated with life in this world? Such a demand argued against nature itself. Thus Jesus answered their unspoken objection by showing that life in His kingdom isn't about irresponsibility or foolish presumption; it's about dependent, but fully confident faith in the provision of a loving heavenly Father.
