The Sign of The Tsunami: A Biblical Perspective

How should we interpret the tsunami that devastated southern Asia last week? We must interpret the event according to a Biblical World View which rests upon the truths of Creation, Fall and Redemption. The tsunami must be understood in light of the Fall. The tsunami must also be understood in light of the coming Final Judgment. The dominant Biblical metaphor by which we are to understand this "sign of the times" is that of a woman giving birth - a contraction leading to the certain delivery of the child. Jesus prophesies of these catastrophes & says "All these things are merely the beginning of birth-pangs." The unconverted must not deny the significance of this event: judgment unexpected & inescapable is coming. Today is the day of salvation. Now is the time to flee by faith to Christ. The Christian needs to take courage: our redemption draws nigh. But let us be on guard, let us give ourselves with diligent devotion to Christ "praying in order that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, & to stand before the Son of Man." (Lk 21:36)
