Calves, Grace and the Glory of God

37

What can Leviticus teach us about the purpose of worship?

Here we gaze upon the first worship service conducted by Aaron in the tabernacle as high priest. We see lists of sacrifices offered and lists of animals presented; we see blessings pronounced - but the feature of this chapter - repeated three times over - is the promise that God would show his glory to the worshippers.

Is that a valid reason to worship God? To see his glory? Yes! In fact, that is the primary motivation for Christian worship - that we might see God, and that we might see his glory.

This passage also shows us God's graciousness, as there is a clear reminder of Aaron's sin built right into the first sacrifice offered - a calf.
