Haiti Orphan Crisis

By now just about everyone is well aware the horrible conditions in Haiti due to a massive earthquake that struck the nation's capital, Port-au-Prince on January 12th. The quake has left the country in shambles. The casualties will number in the tens of thousands. About a third of the country's population has been affected in one way or another. Amidst the chaos in Haiti are frightened and vulnerable children, and many of them are now orphans.

For those orphaned before the earthquake, a difficult life is growing even more desperate. With the deaths of so many adults in the earthquake, the number of orphans in Haiti continues to swell. And Americans already waiting to adopt a Haitian orphan are desperate to speed up the process.

On the program today, I will speak with Dan Cruver director of Together for Adoption and Laura Godwin from Carolina Hope Christian Adoption Agency re: the current crisis facing Haiti's orphans. We will also be joined by Jay Cherry, a orphanage worker who lived through last Tuesday's earthquake and has just returned to his Jacksonville area home.
