The Congregation of the Wicked
Series The Gospel According to Luke
130
We call Psalm 22 a 'Messianic Psalm' because it speaks of the Messiah, and the feelings and thoughts it conveys are not David's, but great David's greater Son, Jesus. For instance, it's first line was Christ's lament from the cross.
Now Jesus stands at the judgment of Pilate, he has been beaten and mocked, now he continues to endure all the violence and abuse that men can heap on him - the psalm sets the scene well: 'For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me'
But why is Christ, the Lord of the universe willing to endure this? Why is He silent?
