The discerning test which is determining and recognizing who the enemy of the believer is. He has identified the enemy as the world's system and those false believers he calls antichrists.

II. Be Certain You Are His Child (v. 1)
A. You have a new Father
B. You have a new family
C. You have a new foe

III. Be Conformed To His Character (vv. 2-3)
A. Our position in Christ is certain
B. Our transformation will be complete
C. Our lives are challenged
