Pilgrim's Progress - Obstinate and Pliable

465

This is an adult discussion class on Pilgrim's Progress. This lesson focuses on two of Bunyan's characters, Obstinate and Pliable and their meeting with Christian. Obstinate is the one who opposes Christianity. But Pliable is one who appears to embrace the things of God, all the while being merely a 'stony-ground hearer'. Pliable loves to think of heaven and the benefits of eternal life, yet he shows no true heart for God, and is not able to stand under testings. We are sad to say, many NT churches are not only full of 'Pliables', but they are breeding grounds for them, because they have left off preaching the whole counsel of God and concentrate instead on "felt needs".
