The Imputation of Righteousness

We recently examined part of Romans 3, where we understood from Paul's doctrine that the only justification that sinful man can receive is the righteousness of Christ obtained by faith without the works of the law. He closes that chapter with two remarks: firstly, that this is the only justification needed for both Jew and Gentile, and, secondly, that this does not mean that we do not obey the law, rather we establish the law by faith in Christ. The Apostle then goes on the whole of chapter 4 to use Abraham as an example of a sinner saved by faith, and not by the works of the law:
