A New Command

112 ( 54 | 58 )

Jesus knows exactly what is going to happen. In this passage, Jesus is telling His disciples exactly what is going to happen. Peter is focused not on what Jesus is telling him to do, but what is going to happen. Jesus refers to His disciples as children, and Jesus is patient. Jesus only said what the Father told Him to say and only did what the Father told Him to do. As Man, Jesus was fully dependent on God, as God, Jesus is fully submitted to the Father. God rules over all and works out His plan and we need to be agreeing with God about what He says. We cannot, however create reality by speaking with our words, that is shamanism. When things seem to be spinning out of control, what ever bad or good that happens; what is going on is for the glory of God. Jesus gave a new command to His disciples, to love one another. Jesus gave the command to love one another three times. When Jesus commands us to do something, He enables us to do it. Jesus not only commands it, but illustrates it as well. We are to have Jesus live His life through us. The only way for Jesus to be resurrected was through the cross. Jesus commands that we do the same. We must lay our lives down and have Jesus live His life through us. If we are to love as Jesus loved, it will cost us everything, a sacrificial love. How do we know if we are Christians, the love that Christians have for one another. God is love. Jesus commands us to love one another the way He has loved us.
