The Three Tests of Authentic Christianity

I. Test #1- Faith.
a. This faith believes and depends on certain things (5:1).
b. This faith is a result of being born again (5:1).
c. This faith isn't mere intellectual belief (5:1).

II. Test #2- Love.
a. This love mimics God's love (4:11).
b. This love is not sentimental but action oriented (3:18).
c. This love is connected with faith (5:1-3).
d. This love is a necessary test (5:2).

III. Test #3- Obedience.
a. This obedience is a proof of love and faith (5:2).
b. This obedience is not burdensome (5:3).

IV. The Final Result of Being Born of God: Victory.
a. This victory is because we are born of God (5:4).
b. This victory is by faith (5:4).
c. This victory overcomes the world (5:5).
