Entering God's Rest

Entering God's Rest

One of the most indispensable senses in our bodies is the tactile. The skin is an amazing organ, by which we communicate with our surroundings through a countless registry of sensorial perceptions that we start gathering from birth and that literally keep us alive.

Now imagine for a second that our bodies were made in such a way, that the only sensorial feeling we could experience was pleasure. If you touch fire, pleasure, if you get an electric shock, pleasure, break a leg or an arm, even more pleasure, cut or wound yourself, pure pleasure. How long do you believe we would survive? Maybe hours if not minutes!

Link: that makes pain a friend and the fear of pain an indispensable allied in order to survive! It is ironic that fear and pain are more indispensable to be alive than pleasure!

Hebrews 4:1
Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering `His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.

Outline:

  1. The warning of faith: beware of unbelief
  2. The power of faith: it unlocks God's promise in the Gospel
  3. The purpose of faith: it brings God's rest
  4. The motivation of faith: a Great High Priest that opened a Throne of Grace

THE CALL:
Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall through following the same example of disobedience.
