An Emerging Church

280

There has emerged in the church in our day an approach to Christianity which seeks to engage the mind as well as the emotions; it has abandoned in many ways the tired, trite emotionalism that has held sway for many years and yet it still retains the lingering distaste for doctrinal absolutes, creedal statements of faith. There is a good emphasis on the community of believers and the love that is to permeate and define that unity, but also a detrimental de-emphasizing of the fixed doctrinal truth which is the foundation and principle of that love.
Much of the sermon this morning will examine this trend and answer it in light of Scripture in general and our passage in particular.
