One of the highest priorities that we should have as the people of God……is to spend quality time with the Lord……each day.

Failure to spend time with God each day will weaken you as an individual, it will weaken your family and it will weaken the church. (“All the troubles in the church are related, more or less, to our failure to watch over our souls.” — Maurice Roberts)

Today we will consider …..

  1. THE VITAL NECESSITY OF THIS DUTY

The vital necessity of this duty is set before us in Prov. 4:23.

Prov 4:23 Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.

How does the Bible describe the heart???

In Jer. 17:9 'The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately wicked; who can understand it?'

Remember that the word 'heart' as used in the Scripture includes all our faculties…..our mind, emotions, affections and our will.

Men will go to great lengths to keep their job, business, material possessions, health, friends, reputation, and sources of pleasure.

They spend little or no time and effort keeping their heart.
For the purpose of our study....we will consider the three principal elements which the heart involves.

The mind, emotions, and will.

The mind must be kept.

In Eph. 4:23 we read where we are to be renewed in the spirit of our mind.
