Up to Calvary

The cruel and unjust sentence having been passed upon him, our Lord is led up to Calvary, demonstrating his love and compassion. The passage shows us the man who helped, Simon of Cyrene; we learn from the women who mourned as our Lord speaks to them; and, the Prophet who warns, telling them—and us—of the judgment to come. He calls us not to a merely sentimental reaction, but to a response of heartfelt contrition and faith in the Suffering Substitute.
