Starting Strong — Falling Far
Who or What God is Looking For
One of the most beautiful images of God is found in a rebuke to one the great grandson of King David. But it came toward the end of his life. King Asa started out so well but tumbled hard toward a tragic end because he simply neglected to trust God with a situation that he handled so well earlier in his life.
God came to Him in the beginning of his reign with this message: "And the Spirit of God...said...Hear me, Asa...The Lord is with you, WHILE you are with Him; and if you seek Him, He will be found of you; but if ye forsake Him, He will forsake you. Now for a long season Israel has been WITHOUT the true God, and WITHOUT a teaching priest, and WITHOUT law. But when they, in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought Him, he was found (appeared or made clear) of them..." (2 Chron. 15:1-7)
This was the king's life line for the next 30 plus years... until he found himself seeking help from another nation to help him fight against his own brothers. Regardless who he sought help from he didn't seek help, like he had done in the past, from the Lord. So God sent him a new word... a rebuke for Asa but a wondrous word for us today.
This is what God reveals about Himself... and what an image it is; "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him..." (2 Chronicles 16:9)
What is a perfect heart? A perfect heart TOWARD Him is a heart that loyally trust Him... one that is united or single toward Lord and His commitment to him. It's speaking of being singleminded toward the Lord...
