We Know Somebody
Let's fast forward 150 years to the days of Amos, Jeroboam II and the consequences of Jeroboam's convenient counterfeit we're reading about in 1 Kings. This is where the "too much" thinking leads.
When people are convinced that God and His ways are too much they'll always settle on on a convenient substitute.
Jeroboam planted the "too much" seed and it took deep root and blossomed for several hundred years.
When God's way is "too much" we'll always settle for a counterfeit... and before we know it, the counterfeit becomes the only thing we know.
