Adultery, Lust, & Love

Using the principles that we saw before [1- a commandment refers to heart as well as action; and 2 - a commandment that forbids one action, teaches the opposite], Jesus now addresses the commandment on adultery. In keeping with these principles, Jesus shows us that adultery is not just the action, but any lustful thought as well. By implication, the opposite is enjoined; i.e. men should love their wives and be faithful to them. Undergirding all of this is the character of God, who is Faithful and True. He always keeps His promises, because He has eternally loved us.
