Falling Away: The Impossibility of Being Restored to Repentance
Main Idea: It is impossible to restore to repentance those who have fallen away.
Who are these “fallen away” people of Hebrews 6:4-6?
• They were once enlightened (3)
• They have tasted the heavenly gift (4)
• They have been sharers in the Holy Spirit (4)
• They have tasted the goodness of the Word of God (5)
• They have tasted of the powers of the age to come (5)
• And then, they have fallen away (6)
Why can they not be restored to repentance?
• They are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm (6)
• They are holding him up to contempt (6)
Illustration: The land receives rain
One part of that land bears good crops (7)
Crops that are useful
The land receives a blessing from God
Another part of that land bears thorns and thistles (8)
Worthless and near to being cursed
Its end is to be burned
