Forgiving the Repentant
Series 2 Corinthians
Forgiveness is not an option for the believer individually nor corporately in the church. Sin can be responded to in unbiblical ways by either tolerating sin without confrontation or being unwilling to accept the one who has repented of their sin.
Sin tolerated and unrebuked will always have a permeating effect and influence on the church as the effects ripple out. Sin tolerated makes a statement about the acceptance of sin in contradiction to the Scriptures. Sin must be confronted according to the pattern God has given in His Word.
When sin is repented of it must be forgiven as one who has been forgiven by God. Neither quantity nor quality of sin excuse the offended from forgiving from the heart. Once sin is repented of the responsibility of believers individually and corporately is to forgive, comfort, and reaffirm love for them.
