Saul’s pursuit of David since chapter 18:9 has been relentless. He’s tried to kill David himself with his spear; he’s tried to have David killed on the battlefield by the Philistines; he’s had his spies waiting for David at every turn; and he’s now tracking David down himself. In all this, Saul has been the relentless pursuer; but in all this, we learn a beautiful surprise about who really has been in pursuit of David.
