Our Lamb's Gentle Rule

Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and He is God's Lamb of sacrifice to save His people.

The symbol of the Lion depicts His right to rule, and the nobility and courage of it. But the symbol of the Lamb depicts His mighty work, the means of His reign, and His gentle character as our King.

We account Him worthy of worship and rule, because He died as God's Lamb to save us.

By His suffering as God's Lamb, the Savior reconciles man's rebellious desire for a King with God's right to reign, because Jesus is God's precious Son.

Jesus' suffering as the Lamb is the cause of God's exalting Him to rule over us.

The means, attitude, success, and power of Christ's reign is completely outside all our experience of governments and kings. In it there is no wrath, no force, no compulsion, and no judgment.

He is our king with all power and might, yet He never has to use it against us, because of His work as the Lamb. His rule over us is meek and gentle. He lays an easy yoke and a light burden on His people.

C. S. Lewis portrays Christ as a Lion to His people, and we expect our leaders and kings to behave like one.

But the astounding thing about Christ's rule is His gentleness and meekness towards us! Only the image of Christ as our Lamb captures the startling difference between all other rulers and our Lord Jesus!

Prophecy foretold Messiah's gentleness towards us, and Jesus lived that gentleness out during His ministry.

Christ can rule over us as our Lamb because the Lamb's work at Calvary has made us righteous and executed the New Covenant, whereby God has made us willing to obey Christ without compulsion.

Christ rules over us forever as our Lamb!
