Slaves of Jesus Christ

Slavery is an ugly word, but we are all slaves to something or someone. You and I are either slaves to SELF—or we are slaves to GOD. Slaves of SELF are really slaves of sin and Satan.

Jesus told the Jews, (Jn 8:34-36) “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is A SLAVE OF SIN {δοῦλος doulos}. And a SLAVE does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

Every Christian is a slave to Christ, but our slavery is a voluntary slavery… We are bound to Christ with cords of love. We have given ourselves to Christ who not only bought us, but He has captivated us with His love.

Samuel Rutherford – ‘O! (to be) covered up in Christ's love! Come, and press His love, and get heaven and glory out of it. Live on His love, and you are wholly fed. Lie on His love, and that is a sweet bed. Ride on His love, and it shall carry you through hell and death, and every evil way. (Those) which Christ has dear bought, He will not (allow to have any need). (You) are sold over to a Lord that will (love and keep) you.'
