Rebuilding the temple

The exiles have settled around Jerusalem, and commence the work of rebuilding the temple. Many are moved with great joy, but some older men are sad, because they remember the former glories and they see that the new temple will not be as great. How do we respond to what God is doing in our own time? Do we just pine for 'how things used to be' or do we rejoice in what the Lord is actually doing now?
