The prophets cited by Peter emphasized the urgency of the situation the Jews faced. One period of suffering they foretold--that of the Suffering Servant--was complete. The eschatological suffering of apostate Israel was near at hand. They must repent and follow Jesus to avoid destruction the prophets proclaimed.
